I was born in Edgware, Middlesex, England, in 1966. After spending the first 34 years of my life living in London, I now live in Northampton, England.
I'm a self-taught artist. With no formal qualifications, I have relied on my personal experiences and experimentation to develop my painting processes and ideas.
I have no set subject matter that I paint. My choice of subject to paint is based on how interesting I find the structure of the subject: Does the structure of the subject have the values necessary to be turned into an abstract work of art? This is the core philosophy of EMERGENCE4ART: From something that exists in the natural world, through my painting processes there is the emergence of an abstract painting.
I take the initial concept stage of the art work very seriously. A lot of thought and time is put into making the right choices in regard to what I paint and how I'm going to represent this element of the real world in an abstract form. The final painting must deliver the same atmosphere, feelings and emotions of the original subject. This is sometimes difficult to produce, for by the very nature of working within abstract forms and design, you have to isolate the main strengths of the original view - find the main colors and shapes that have the greatest value for allowing the original sensations of the subject to remain in the painting using the self-restrictive pallet of colors and limited shapes. Once the design, pallet colors and the emotional effect of the painting is decided upon, it's time for the fun part - the actual painting of the subject. I always try to have fun during the painting process: This is the time when I can become that child I once was. When painting was done for painting sake - watching the colors come together, smelling the paint and watching the raw ingredients turn into a finished painting.
I paint primarily in acrylic paints onto canvas - sometimes adding mixed media, which varies from glitter to colored beads and cloth. One of the main considerations I have to employ when painting is, that the finished art work has powerful design content, colorful and it fits within the market of affordable art.
I want my work to reach the masses, by making my works affordable and contemporary, so the paintings can sit well in the modern contemporary space - your home. For too long the art culture has been seen as elitist, giving the impression that only paintings that are expensive and are shown on the common white walls of high-end galleries have any value - this is just not true! There is a vast amount of talented people out there who can provide affordable AND high value art.
This site is a porthole into affordable contemporary art. You pay a lot of money and put a lot of time and effort into making your house your home, so why should you have to pay a lot of money to have a piece of modern art on your wall?
I hope you enjoy looking around this site. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
Take care of yourself.
